Background The Very Vegetarian Society of Winston Salem (V.V.S.W.S.) was founded in 1990 by Anne and Wes Weaver. They were inspired to start their own vegetarian group after attending Summerfest sponsored by the North American Vegetarian Society and listening to the wonderful speakers in attendance. Several of our members attend Summerfest every year. Purpose The purpose of V.V.S.W.S. is to provide education and support to those who are vegetarian or who want to become vegetarian. We provide education materials at health related conventions and contribute articles to newspapers. V.V.S.W.S. also coordinates appearances for national speakers and authors such as Neal Barnard, MD (Breaking the Food Seduction), Agatha Thrash, M.D (Food Allergies Made Simple)., . Michael Klaper, M.D.,(PBS television productions, "Food for Thought," and the award winning, "Diet for a New America.") Howard Lyman (Mad Cowboy), and Brenda Davis, R.D. (Becoming Vegetarian) As interest in vegetarianism grows in Winston Salem and the country, we look forward to continuing to educate and support vegetarians in their quest for information. Monthly Meetings V.V.S.W.S .meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at Miller Park Recreation Center.
